Special challenges need special solutions.
Most companies walk a thin line between off-the-shelf software and individual solutions. How this decision is taken depends on many factors, such as the desire or need to optimise, cost and maintenance efforts, to name but a few. A primary principle for such decisions should remain “buy before build”, as custom solutions can incur unexpected cost and dependencies. If a very specific requirement is to be implemented, however, the opposite may be true.
If you have to make such a decision, or if you have already decided on a custom solution but are still looking for somebody to analyse and understand the consequences, effort and cost before proceeding, I can offer my 25 years of experience in the field.
